The contract, in detail

6 moments

On 10 July 2026 the Portuguese Football Federation confirmed Jorge Jesus as national team manager, on a four-year deal aimed squarely at the 2030 World Cup — the tournament Portugal will co-host.

The terms went public almost as soon as the name. Pedro Proença offered the manager exactly the same salary the FPF had been paying Roberto Martínez — four million euros, according to Diário de Notícias — plus half a million euros to put together his coaching staff, just as his predecessor had. From Al Nassr came João de Deus, Fábio Jesus and Tiago Oliveira; Márcio Sampaio and Ricardo Silva took charge of fitness, and Nélson Pereira joined Ricardo with the goalkeepers.

Not every invitation was accepted: on the eve of the official announcement it emerged that Pepe had declined to join the coaching staff. This is the section for the numbers and the names — the verifiable things, as opposed to the statements — including the CV the Federation hired: 16 teams, three league titles with Benfica, the Brasileirão and the Libertadores with Flamengo, and a Saudi title with Al Nassr.
